Child Saefty & Wellbeing Policy
1. Our Commitment
The Edge Dance Centre is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where all children and young people are protected from harm, abuse and neglect.
We recognise that children have the right to feel safe, respected and heard at all times. Child safety and wellbeing are embedded in our leadership, studio culture, policies and daily practices.
The Edge Dance Centre has zero tolerance for child abuse.
2. Child Safe Standards
The Edge Dance Centre upholds the NSW Child Safe Standards and is committed to creating a child safe organisation where the best interests of children are paramount.
We ensure that:
Child safety is embedded in leadership, governance and culture
Children are encouraged to participate and are taken seriously
Families and communities are informed and involved
Equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected
Staff working with children are suitable, screened and supported
Child-focused processes are in place to respond to concerns
Staff are trained and equipped to keep children safe
Physical and online environments minimise risk
Child safety practices are continuously reviewed and improved
Policies and procedures clearly document our child safe approach
3. Our Responsibilities
The Edge Dance Centre is responsible for creating a child safe environment and ensuring that safeguarding practices are implemented and maintained.
All staff, contractors and volunteers share responsibility for keeping children safe and are required to follow child safety policies and procedures at all times.
4. Children’s Participation and Voice
We value children’s voices and encourage students to express their views, ask questions and raise concerns.
Children are supported to speak up if they feel unsafe and are treated with respect and care when they do.
5. Families and Communities
Parents and carers are recognised as partners in safeguarding children.
The Edge Dance Centre is committed to open communication with families and encourages questions, feedback and involvement in our child safety practices.
6. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all children feel welcome, respected and supported.
We recognise that some children may require additional support and take steps to ensure equitable access, participation and safety for every child.
7. Staff Screening and Training
All staff and relevant contractors working with children:
hold a current Working With Children Check
receive child safety training
follow a strict professional Code of Conduct
8. Safe Environments
We maintain safe physical and online environments through appropriate supervision, clear behaviour expectations, responsible use of digital platforms and consent-based photography and media practices.
9. Responding to Concerns
Any concerns regarding a child’s safety or wellbeing are taken seriously and responded to promptly and sensitively, in line with NSW legislation and reporting requirements.
Concerns may be raised with the Studio Director or a senior staff member.
10. Continuous Improvement
Child safety is an ongoing commitment. Our policies and practices are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain effective and aligned with best practice.
11. Review
This policy is reviewed annually or earlier if required due to legislative or organisational changes.
