She went on to finish her studies at the Western Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) under the direction of Lucette Aldous, Alan Alder, Mark Annear, Lenny Westerdyk and Reyes de Lara. She has had an extensive professional career working as a dancer, singer and actor both in Australia and Asia. She has performed with Darc Swan Dance Company, Come Alive Productions, Disney, Di Heaton Dancers, Wonderland Sydney and Dance Encore Productions including the Musical ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (role of Snow White). Nicky has also performed at various Charity Events including performances as “Marilyn Monroe”, Carols in the Domain, ‘MO’ Awards, Opening of Stadium Australia, RSL Club Promotions, Westfield Promotions, Christmas Functions and NRL football events. She has appeared on a number of Television commercials and series including ’ Farscape’ and ’Going Home’ and has performed as a lead vocalist with a number of bands in Sydney. Nicky has over 25 years teaching experience and has taught at many dance studios both in Australia and America. She also lectured in classical ballet at Federation University and Sydney TAFE, for the Bachelor of Musical Theatre program. Nicky gained her RAD Teaching Certificate in 2002, graduating with a High Distinction. She was on the RAD NSW Regional Advisory Panel for 6 years and of those, 3 years as Chairperson. Nicky’s students have gone on to achieve success in many fields of the Performing Arts Industry both in Australia and overseas. Stevens’s also a talented choreographer and has assisted SYTYCD choreographer Tiana Canterbury with her season 3 & 4 routines including Top 16 ’Rude Boy’, Top 14 ‘Can’t Touch This’ Top 2 boys duo ‘Take your Shirt Off’ and the infamous ‘twerk it’ routine from season 4. Through the guidance of Miss Nicky and her teachers, Alexa has had the opportunity to participate in USA ballet intensives, dance at an RAD gala alongside commercial experiences such as performing in the Royal Easter Show. The nurturing environment at EDC has allowed Alexa to not only progress as a dancer but as a teacher. Alexa has been assistant teaching since 2017 and started as an assistant READY SET DANCE Teacher in 2018. These include multiple performance competitions, Christmas and Easter shows, fetes and festivals. Through dancing, Renee has made lifelong friends, and the countless competitions and long rehearsals have effectively shown her how to work in a team. In 2021, she graduated from Ettingshausens Pro with her Diploma of Elite Performance where she was fortunate enough to train under many industry professionals including Kelley Abbey, Neale Whittaker and Daniel Assetta. Leanne is a versatile performer who expanded her training in genres of RAD Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Musical Theater, Contemporary and Hip Hop Foundations. In 2020, Leanne had the opportunity to perform for the ICC T20 Women’s Cricket World Cup. She also appeared in Sela Vai’s concept video, “commUNITY” which was released in 2021. Since then, Leanne has worked and assisted alongside Sela Vai in multiple projects including performing at the 2022 Ted X Sydney Conference at Sydney Town Hall. She was also fortunate enough to be a dancer extra on The Voice Promotional Shoot for 2022. This syllabus is a highly regarded syllabus recognised around the world. Whilst exams are not compulsory, we encourage students from Grade 1 upwards, to take 2 Ballet Classes per week to help develop core strength, flexibility and musicality. We pride ourselves on our 100% pass rate in both Grade and Vocational examinations with over 80% of our students attaining the highest level of Distinction. Tap is about rhythm and coordination and students will learn various techniques and a variety of styles including Broadway, Street and Stomp Tap. Ages: 5 years+ (as at 1st January) Contemporary dance developed in the early 20th century as a result of artists wishing to break free from the constraint and rigidity of classical ballet. It soon blossomed and evolved, becoming very popular, as it gave the dancer and choreographer the opportunity to explore movement using natural lines, energy and form. Today, contemporary dance encompasses a broad range of techniques and styles, it can be danced to any style of music and all movements are free to express an emotion or tell a story using the language of movement. This freedom results in unique choreography that draws on harnessing natural energy and momentum, while utilising the breath to provide the dancer with the tools to create the desired dynamic. Unlike most dance forms, contemporary uses the body’s natural alignment and is therefore accessible to beginners. Students will also have the opportunity of performing in various Christmas Shows. The Show Team may also perform in our end of year concerts. Students MUST take at least one ballet class and one jazz class to be eligible. Emphasis is on developing individual style and technique which also includes the isolation and the controlled tensing of muscles as seen in styles like “popping” and “locking”. Hip Hop is a fresh new melting pot of mixed flavours, it includes everything from tight small movements, strength moves as seen in break dancing to smooth lyrical combinations often seen in music videos such as Usher, Missy Elliot and Justin Timberlake. Classes start with an extensive warm-up and stretch followed by Kicks, Leaps and Spins and then some choreography. The Edge provides a range of classes from Pre-Junior through to Advanced levels.
